Decorating on a Budget

Published on January 29th, 2016

Just moved into a new home? Are you thinking of all the different ways you can decorate your new space? Decorating a new home is very exciting, but it can come with a big price tag. Home décor websites and stores can be extremely expensive. When you’re first starting out, decorating on a dime might be the more logical route.

Listed below are some budget-friendly ideas to turn your new home into a cool and fun space to entertain or just hang out:

1. Paint an accent wall – Painting is one of the most budget-conscious ways to transform your entire space. Add some decorative stripes or use a stencil. You can even grab a sharpie and ruler for virtually no cost at all! There are endless possibilities when it comes to the walls, get creative!

2. Paint wooden or plastic animals – Metallic animals that you can buy from the store can get really pricey. Instead, you can buy a wooden or plastic piece, whether it is an animal or another object, and spray paint it to fit with your other décor.

3. Look for coffee table books on discount – You never have to buy big, artsy books at full price. Next time you are in a used book or thrift store, look around and see what cool books you can find.

4. Learn how to make pillow covers – Decorative pillows are essential when it comes to home décor. Ever feel a really comfortable pillow but hate the design on the outside? Pick it up anyway, because you can make a pillow cover to match your own style.

5. Use paper – Paper is one of the cheapest things that you can use when it comes to decorating. You can make wreaths and garland by using different colored pieces of paper and tissue paper, depending on the look and feel you are going for. Metallic tissue paper is a fun way to spice up a space!

6. Make your own wall art – Have you looked at the prices of wall art? Even at budget places, wall art can be a little steep on the budget. Consider making your own art! It will end up being a lot more budget-friendly, you just need to put aside enough time to make it look perfect!

7. Use some plywood – Hanging up a piece of plywood with some of your favorite art or reminders is a great way to save some cash. It is pretty inexpensive, and you can have a store cut the perfect size for you. The natural look of plywood will add a rustic look to any space!

8. Frame some free prints – Free is a word that everyone likes to hear! If you don’t have the time or the talent to make your own wall art, find some free printables that you can frame. You can make your own mini-gallery of your favorites!

Hopefully some of the ideas on this list have your gears turning, thinking about how you can incorporate some of this budget-friendly décor into your own space.
