Many people in the United States suffer from allergies, sinus infections and asthma, and treatments for these conditions include reducing the number of chemicals used at home.
More and more non-toxic cleaning products are becoming available at your local store, but there are clever ways to make your own cleaning products with items you probably already have around the house. Using these products helps to keep the environment you live in clean and safe. Check out some of the homemade recipes
All-Purpose Cleaner: For a cleaner that can cover just about any surface, vinegar is the solution. When creating the solution, use nine parts water to one part vinegar. Your surfaces will shine in no time!
Glass Cleaner: Natural glass cleaner is incredibly easy to whip up. Mix one cup rubbing alcohol, one cup water and one tablespoon white vinegar. You can eliminate the smudges and fingerprints on glass with this DIY cleaner!
Oven Cleaner: Getting those grease stains out when cleaning your oven can be tough. Two cups hot water, one tablespoon natural dish soap and one tablespoon borax will get the job done. Just let the mixture sit on the surface for twenty minutes and then wash away those stubborn stains.
Carpet Stain Cleaner: To get rid of stains on your carpet, create a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray directly on the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before you scrub with a brush or sponge and soapy water.
Laundry Detergent: Keeping your laundry detergent natural is just as important as your other household cleaners. Mix one cup of Ivory or Fels Naptha soap with ½ cup washing soda and ½ cup borax. For light loads use one tablespoon; use two tablespoons for heavier loads.
Air Freshener: There are many items you already have around the home you can use to create natural air fresheners. For example, you can use baking soda or vinegar with lemon juice in a small dish to absorb odors around your home. Freshen up your kitchen by grinding up leftover lemon peels in the garbage disposal or by simmering water and cinnamon with other spices on the stove. You can also keep fresh coffee grounds on your counter to neutralize scents.
